I recently bought a Nikon micro nikkor 105mm 2.8 lens from 1977. It was built to take macro shots and it can still be used today. This photo of an unknown insect was taken handheld with my Nikon D7000 and the sharpness is just amazing. It is manual focus but when your so close to the object, the AF motor can’t really do a better job than your own eyes. You can pick up a lens like this for about 100 dollars, but be sure that it had an ai-s conversion. Else it won’t fit on your camera.
